Katherine McLean Ryan was born in Lumberton, North Carolina and is a third-generation attorney. Katherine attended Duke University for her undergraduate degree, where she was a member of the Dean’s List. She majored in History and minored in Art History. Katherine matriculated to Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, where she was also a member of the Dean’s List.
During law school, Katherine clerked for the Honorable Paul Newby in the Supreme Court of North Carolina and the Honorable Fred Morrison, Jr. of the Office of Administrative Hearings of North Carolina. As a law clerk, she was responsible for researching complex legal issues and drafting bench memoranda.
After graduation and prior to joining this firm, Katherine practiced law at Maynard, Cooper & Gale in Birmingham for five years as a member of the firm’s Securities Litigation Practice Group. She specialized in the defense of brokerage firms and financial institutions against claims asserted by customers in state and federal court and in arbitration proceedings before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
